The right of citizens of the United States to vote being twenty-one of age except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
It has come to attention that the right to vote should be move to age 21 again, the reason for it being at 21 is that people are a lot matured, and they are more likely to come out and vote each time there an election compare to age 18 and younger.
Now a lot of people would argue that 18 is the right age to vote. They believed that if you can get drafted at the age 18 to serve your country then you should be able to vote or have I say in the election presses.
Here are more argument for lowing the voting age:
• 6 year olds are mature enough to make important decisions such as voting. Their bodies are fully adult, they have been educated for at least 10 years, and most of them have some experience of work as well as school. All this allows them to form political views and they should be allowed to put these across at election time. There is no magic difference between 16 and 18 - indeed, many 16 year old are more sensible than some 20 year olds.
• It is unfair to have taxation without representation. Many 16 year olds work and pay tax on their earnings. At present they are not allowed to have a say in how the government spends their money, nor in how much should be collected from them in taxes. Policies such as the minimum wage and working hours and conditions are also set by governments, and if young people are old enough to have jobs they should be able to have their say in these issues.
• It is important in a democracy to include as wide a range of opinion as possible. The idea of representation by elected officials means that as many different views as possible should be heard at election time. Teenagers have their own interests and views which are currently not represented. This leads them to feel unvalued by society and to lose trust in the way the country is governed.
• Giving the vote to teenagers would force politicians to take them seriously. Policies on education (e.g. student loans) would have to take their views and interests into account for the first time. 16 year olds today are well-educated and media-savvy, so they can express informed opinions. But at the moment young people’s views are easily ignored by those in power.
• Teens are just as capable of forming opinions. They are adults that become jaded and don't care about issues; they just want their political party to win. Teenagers are just as clueless as adults (in the political forum), clueless teens would avoid the polls for the most part.... why vote if you don't care?
To sum things up this is all great argument, but it’s still believed that the voting age should be at the age of 21. Again young teen are not matured enough to vote, they would take the process seriously. Just because, most teenager have the right to do a lot of things, for example getting a job, and their driven permit, that does not mean that they should be able to have a say in politic. The large majority still lives at home and goes to school. It has all ready proven that a lot off the people that don’t usually vote are the one that are under the age of 21.
Being the age of twenty-one to vote is the best thing for the country. With the way young adults act today and the things they get into, why do we want young immature kids voting for someone that could be the next president of the United States. Now with the election going on with all the problems with this, not too may young people are about what each canadate is doing, 75% of young adults 18-25 don’t even have one good reason of why they are even voting. Just because you have the right to vote doesn’t mean you have to. Being educated about who you want to vote for is something that should be encouraged. As times are getting ruff in this world today, we need someone who will help out and make sure things get done. Not someone who will not d anything about it and sits back and just watch the world fall apart, and this is things that young adults don’t know. If you want to vote, you need to know why, you need to know how much your vote can count for in this world. Too many children are immature in this world, and are not growing up. Between the ages of 18 to 25, you are still a child. You are grown, but in your mind you still are children. Your young just got out of college and are starting your life. You don’t have as much experience as a 45 year old has, or even a 72 year old has. This all affects the world, and who is going to be continuing to run it. You should need to know why you’re voting, and what changes your vote can mean. You should be able to know whom your voting for and what they are going to do if they become president. All the things that you agree with, and disagree with are things that can help you chose who your going to chose. There isn’t that may young adults now a days that are going to be looking up all this information about politics and getting to involved into that. It’s not all maturity, its self background and who each person is. What they agree with and what they disagree with.
